My mother was interviewed by the NY Times yesterday. The reporter didn't know that he had found one of the best people to ask about Morris County, - my mother has lived there her whole life. The inquiry of the day? Earthquakes! It is as strange as it sounds, earthquakes in NJ! These were just little tremors, - three within the last month. The full story at the NY Times site.
Unfortunately, Mom's face didn't make it into the article, so here is a recent shot.

A Yummy President's Day
In honor of President's Day the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C. displayed presidential portraits, made of cupcakes! The artist used over 5,000 cupcakes to create the faces of Presidents Lincoln and Obama. What a fun idea! For a cute story on the event, NPR has more!

Fun Finds from the SAG Awards
The dresses that showed up at the SAG Awards were glamorous, sophisticated, and fun. More risks were taken here than were a few weeks earlier at the Golden Globes. To accompany these photos, I've decided to let my inner-critic run wild, so here come the comments; I do it in private anyway, why not write about it? The mentionables are...
Is there something similar going on here? Two different designers. Both dresses have gorgeous criss-crossing around the back and shoulders, fresh, sophisticated, sleek, really nice.
KW. is gorgeous, this royal blue is beautiful. Simple hair and makeup looks great.
This look is super sexy, in white. All around right. Nice cut-outs make this white look fresh. Cute, easy hair works.
Beautiful all around. This is a great color for FP. nice, simple hair and makeup work with the ripples and pleats of this flirty dress.
Glamor-ific! All around, coloring, draping, hair, makeup, accessories really roaring.
Very sexy. Simple hair and makeup keep this look refined.
This look is fun! Beautiful color, nice cut to show off a great upper body, cute hair and accessories.
Didn't like this dress at first. On second, it works better. The cut, drape, and black sash are great, and hair, and makeup are really nice, but the taupe is a little close to AF's skin tone.
Another duo. Close up, there is some nice lace-beading around the collar and waste, nice vintage-modern revival looks. In white this dress is really sophisticated. In black: funkier, eclectic, and feeling Cleopatra inspired.
Fun, nice color and cut, simple hair and makeup work works.
These ladies went for blouson-one pieces, billowy tops and flowing skirts. The look is fresh and relaxed. Done nicely.
Edgy silhouette, punchy color, and the right hair, makeup, and accessorizing. Between this event and the GG, I think her stylist has got her pegged.
Sexy, and glam, like the hair, and eyes, but the red lips are too much, making the look a little costumy.
Love this dress. This peachy-orange doesn't create enough contrast against the EL's tan skin-tone. It's kind of a wash.
Really loved this dress and coloring, great retro look going on..just do not like these shoes. Amethyst and evergreen are just fine, but these heavy, strapy-heels are chunky and clunky!
Love this gown for an evening gala...

Obama-rama
Barack Obama was sworn in at noon on Tuesday, as the 44th President of the United States. This was a monumental and powerful day in our US history. To many people this marks a change to come for our economy, politics, and society. The obvious watershed is that Obama is the first African American to be elected President. The real reason for the commotion is that the new President is really moving. Shutting down Guantanamo Bay Prison, freezing Washington-aides' salaries, and talking to Middle East leaders about change..all in a day's work!
Here's how Will Ferrel (as Dubyah) introduced the new President:
"It's sad, but change is necessary. Without change, we'd all wear the same clothes every day... So I'm leaving the White House to go tear it down at some new party hole. But don't worry: the Tiger Woods guy's taking over. He seems to know a lot of stuff."
And here's another tip.

New Year's Miami Style
New Year's was a hodgepodge of activities..we started at Ryan's cousins Erica, Rose and Howard D.'s for champagne and cheese, then met up Aviva and her parents on our way to Lincoln Road for some people watching and entertainment. We ended up at another cousin's for a late night party water-side. I had fun wearing my Miami inspired dress! It was an action-packed night, and a lot of fun. <3
